Marketing & Communications Manager


Life Science Washington (LSW) is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(6) trade association whose mission is to stimulate life science innovation, job creation and ecosystem vibrancy across Washington state through engagement, collaboration, promotion, and advocacy. Life Science Washington members include over 500 biotech, medical device, digital health, and non-profit research institutions across the state as well as investors and service providers that collectively make up one of the nation’s strongest life science clusters.

 

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Membership, the Marketing & Communications Manager develops, executes and manages a broad range of communications and marketing strategies to increase the engagement of LSW members and promote the industry both locally and nationally. This includes developing marketing content and collateral, overseeing production and dissemination of communication materials, and implementing integrated marketing and communications programs and services that increase the LSW brand and value proposition. This position will also work with the VP of Public Policy and External Affairs and the President & CEO on external communication activities including developing presentations and speeches, interacting with the press, and implementing campaigns to increase the visibility of the industry.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Create and manage marketing initiatives for membership recruitment and retention,
    programs, services and events, in collaboration with the membership team
  • Assess current internal communications platforms and recommend ways to streamline
    the dissemination of LSW news and activities
  • Develop and foster member story bank to be used for internal and external outreach
    activities
  • Develop key collateral, such as the LSW annual report, fact sheets, and press releases to
    support key activities
  • Manage inbound media request with support from agency partner, including such
    activities as identifying a spokesperson and gathering responses/data/information
    requested
  • Lead the development and editing of all content for internal and external
    communication activities
  • Write speeches and develop presentations for LSW President & CEO and other senior
    leaders, as appropriate
  • Support development of briefings and communications to business leaders and elected
    officials
  • Manage all LSW social media channels and performance metrics; work across internal
    teams and alongside members to gather timely and relevant content
  • Oversee the organization’s website. Edit content, update site routinely with news and
    program information, ensure consistent messaging, troubleshoot and coordinate with
    vendors to ensure functionality throughout the site
  • Ensure consistent LSW branding in all communication vehicles including such items as
    event signage, logos and corporate graphics, printed and online materials, etc.
  • Track and report out on ongoing communications activities and results; help prepare
    internal and Board updates, as needed
  • Help develop and execute industry participation in high-profile events, roundtables, and
    panel discussions
  • Help develop strategy for increasing the visibility of the industry locally and its
    reputation nationally
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/QUALITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications or related field
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications and/or public
    relations within a public relations agency, a life science organization, or an industryfocused
    non-profit organization
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills are essential; attention to details is a must
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities
    within tight timelines and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills that include the ability to work collaboratively in a
    matrixed, team environment
  • Proficiency with email marketing, digital communications, and web publishing platforms
    a plus
  • A strong working knowledge of design, brand development, and creative process
  • Flexibility, a helpful, can-do attitude, and a sense of humor are essential!

 

Working conditions: Some travel is required. General office work environment. Occasional
evening meetings.

 

LOCATION: Seattle/Eastlake
