SBIR/STTR Proposal Prep for DoD (presented by Becky Aistrup)

This workshop will provide detailed instruction on preparing a proposal to meet the mission and standards of the Dept. of Defense SBIR/STTR programs. 


You will learn about:

  • SBIR/STTR program basics
  • Up-to-date information about the DoD SBIR program
  • An understanding of the differences between DoD components
  • How to identify a topic
  • Advice on preparing each part of your proposal  
  • Writing your proposal to meet the reviewers’ expectations
  • Common problems and pitfalls and how to avoid them

Commercialization for SBIR-Stage Companies (presented by Becky Aistrup)

A credible commercialization strategy not only helps you evaluate your customers and market, it is critical to garnering the attention of funding sources. This class will kick-start your thinking with the basics in early market assessments and planning, pitfalls to avoid, key steps to take, and more. Learn how federal funding through the SBIR and STTR programs can be a valuable part of the equation.

Commercialization and Beyond: Pursuing Federal Contracts (presented by Stephanie Scott)

Incorporating federal agencies into your commercialization plan and taking steps now to prepare to sell to government can help you leverage SBIR funding into becoming a successful government contractor. Learn the basics of federal contracting, including market research strategies useful when preparing your SBIR commercialization plan.

About the Presenters:

Becky Aistrup; Principal Consultant, BBC Entrepreneurial Training & Consulting (BBCetc)
Prior to joining BBCetc in 2012, Becky was the SBIR/STTR Program Director for the Minnesota Science and Technology Authority. Becky’s professional background includes over 20 years of experience working within the medical, defense, aerospace, biotech, advanced materials and electronics industries, and consulting with technology companies on SBIR/STTR funding.


Stephanie Scott; Defense Business Development Manager State of Washington Department of Commerce Stephanie has a strong background in federal contracting, specializing in proposal development, strategic market research, and federal contractor certifications. Prior to joining the WA Department of Commerce team focused on strengthening the defense supply chain in WA in October 2015, she was a Government Contracting Specialist with the Washington Procurement Technical Assistance Center, providing technical assistance to small government contractors.
